My Thoughts On: Experimental Films

What I want to do for my experimental film is something different. I've been seeing this trend with experimental films, like overlapping imagery and sounds, video played in reverse, and nudity. Lots and lots of nudity. Of course I'm probably going to do something a little bit more conventional due to lack of time, money, and experience, but I want to get to the point where I feel like I've made something truly my own and something I'm proud of. What I like about experimental is the amazing visuals that come out of the genre, and the nonlinear story-telling, however I don't feel that I get too much out of them. I feel that some of the overall messages are very simple, and the only difficult part is decoding the message. I haven't watched many experimental films, but I do like the visuals and audio of Kenneth Anger and the extreme creativity and tone from the works of David Lynch.

For my film I would like to convey the feeling of a deteriorating childhood. I would like to add music in the background that adds a sense of dread, sadness, and beauty at the same time, because that's really what nostalgia is, a double edge sword. So I plan on adding very contrasting imagery, and I will be using elements from my childhood to make the film more personal to me.
